Combined transport becomes even more environmentally friendly with the CityLogistics container on rail in combination with electrically powered trucks.
E-trucks will be more widl-spread on the roads in the future, thanks to the cooperation between Innofreight, Silo Riedel and Knauf. The latter mines natural gypsum in a mine in Tragöß, Styria, around 120 kilometers away from the company headquarters in Weißenbach near Liezen.
The natural gypsum is transported in CityLogistics containers – our intermodal solutions for the building materials sector. With a length of 20 ft, 120 tons of building materials, excavated material and rubble can be transported per double wagon in combined transport. This container, which is equipped with a flap, can be unloaded using a rotary unloading forklift or tipping chassis, which allows maximum flexibility. To protect the environment and residents, the transported goods are additionally secured with a tarpaulin so no particles can escape from the container.
The natural gypsum is loaded onto CityLogistics containers in Tragöß and transported to the freight station in Kapfenberg by electric truck. There, the CityLogistics containers are transferred to 2×40 ft InnoWaggons using a forklift and transported to Weißenbach by rail.
A charging station for the e-trucks was built on the premises next to the Innofreight headquarters for this transport. With the superchargers, the e-trucks are fully charged again in a short time.
Projects like this are intended to make the construction sector fit for the future and help the industry achieve its climate targets. In order to take a big step in the right direction here, intermodal solutions are needed that give preference to rail but can also be put to good use on the road.
