Innofreight and Projektbahn launch new partnership

During InnoTrans 2026, the newly founded company Projektbahn announced its partnership with Innofreight. Specializing in “the first mile” of newly delivered rail vehicles, the InnoWaggon family serves as a key component thanks to its performance capabilities.

With 3,170 exhibitors from 59 countries, 42 exhibition halls, and 180 world premieres, as well as 113 vehicles on display, the 15th InnoTrans in Berlin set a new record. The prestigious trade fair also marked the launch of the new collaboration between Innofreight and the newly founded German company Projektbahn, which specializes in “the first mile” of newly delivered rail vehicles.

To ensure the safe transport of brand-new railcars—equipped with a wide variety of coupling types—to test centers or end customers, a fleet of special coupling adapter cars from Innofreight will be available in the future. To compensate for the lack of braking force within a train consist when transporting unbraked cargo, brake cars based on the same car type remain available to make up for the missing braking capacity in the train consist. The Basic variant is therefore designed as a pure brake car with screw couplers. The Standard and Universal models feature couplings with fixed coupling heights and the widely used Type 10 coupling head. While the Standard variant is equipped with a center-buffer coupling on one side and is used in pairs, the Universal variant has foldable hybrid couplings on both sides. For transports requiring different coupling heights or other coupling systems, a special variant with a height-adjustable coupling adapter is available.

The InnoWaggons in the double-car design including InnoBogie, known for their high braking force, as well as containers from InnoDuler, serve as state-of-the-art equipment for test and transfer runs and, in four variants, meet all requirements.

The modular design of the InnoWaggons once again proves to be a key success factor: The cars can be converted from one variant to another within just a few days, further increasing their flexibility at short notice. At the same time, Projektbahn and its customers benefit from the rapid availability of new cars—thanks in part to the ongoing work at InnoWay Trieste.
