Together with voestalpine and the Rail Cargo Group, the new materials handling technology for coal was put into operation only 1.5 years after the inauguration of the container tipping facility for coke (Nov. 2015).
From April 2017 onwards, both coke and coal containers will therefore be emptied at one and the same unloading station. The different raw materials are then distributed by means of sophisticated materials handling technology.
The particular challenges for the implementation of this project were: the short deadlines, the very tight spatial conditions on site, and the difficult installation conditions with in some cases extremely poor accessibility. It is also worth mentioning that the entire construction, assembly and commissioning was carried out without interrupting the on-going unloading operations.
By using the particularly light InnoWaggons in combination with the Innofreight MonTainer XXM-L, the total train load is increased by approx. 25 %. The container tipping facility ensures reliable winter operations, even in very low temperatures, and offers a considerable enhancement of occupational safety during the unloading process.
We would like to thank voestalpine, the Rail Cargo Group and all of our project partners for the successful and fruitful collaboration and look forward to our next joint projects.
