Cooperation between the Finnish State Railways “VR” and Innofreight

The Finnish State Railways “VR” and Innofreight have a very successful business relationship for over 10 years. So far, Innofreight has provided container systems for the transport of bulk materials to the cargo department of the Finnish State Railways – VR Transpoint.

The VR Transpoint portfolio is now significantly expanded and strengthened with a very innovative product; the FinnoWaggon Sggrrs. The FinnoWaggon Sggrrs is based on a very successful InnoWaggon Sggrrs, which was, however, adjusted and further developed to the Scandinavian and Finnish environmental and infrastructure conditions.

This new development was presented to all interested customers of VR Transpoint on the 9th November 2017 as part of a joint customer event. The presentation took place on a specially closed platform at Helsinki Central Station. In the near future, the new intermodal container – OreTainer LM – which was also developed for the transport of medium and heavy bulk materials (mining products), will be as well used in the combination with the FinnoWaggon in Finland. This Railshow was rounded off by the presentation of the new and very efficient locomotive “Siemens Vectron”, where also in few months the delivery of 80 units to the Finnish state railway will start.

The development of the FinnoWaggon will be completed in the first half of 2018, and the first regular transports will start in the second half of 2018.

The initial feedback from international visitors was overwhelming – even for cross-border traffic from/to Russia, the development of the FinnoWaggon met with enormous interest because of the lightweight construction and the related optimization of payload.
