We received an award in the “Climate-friendly freight transport and logistics” category for our joint efforts in terms of future-proof freight logistics.
Instead of relying on trucks for a distance of 120 kilometers, as is usually the case, we took a different approach together with our partners Knauf, Silo Riedel and InnoRiedel. The result was an innovative solution to make the transportation of natural gypsum from Tragöß to Knauf’s headquarters in Weißenbach near Liezen sustainable.
The solution combines rail with modern electric trucks: E-trucks bring the CityLogistics containers – lnnofreight’s intermodal solution for the building materials sector – to the mine and these are loaded with natural gypsum. From there, the e-trucks drive to the freight station in Kapfenberg, where the entire container is placed directly onto the wagon. The natural gypsum is then transported by rail directly to the plant for further processing. 80,0000 to 90,0000 tons of natural gypsum are handled in this way every year.
This has also convinced the VCÖ, which annually honors exemplary projects with the Mobility Award to show that an ecologically compatible and socially just transport transition is possible. We are delighted that our joint efforts have been recognized. We will keep at it and are motivated to develop further innovative and sustainable transport solutions for freight traffic.
