Between Baruth and Bremen, the Smart GigaWood Round & Sawn is setting a new record while transporting sawn timber for Binderholz: 22 2×45-ft InnoWaggons are carrying an impressive 4,108 m³ of sawn timber, combining the transport of sawn timber and roundwood.
The most distinctive features of our Smart GigaWood are right there in the name: “Smart” stands for the flexible arrangement of the stanchions, while “Giga” refers to the exceptionally high loading capacity for roundwood and a 30 percent increase in payload compared to conventional timber waggons. The Round & Sawn variant offers yet another advantage: It combines the high loading capacity of the Smart GigaWood series with the ability to use the stanchions—designed for transporting roundwood—without any modifications to transport sawn timber bundles—and achieves top performance in this regard as well.
Just a few days ago, our long-standing partner Binderholz in Germany demonstrated how well this system works in practice: Between Baruth and Bremen, more sawn lumber was transported than ever before—a 651-meter-long block train consisting of 22 2×45-foot InnoWaggons carried an impressive 4,108 m³ of sawn timber. A true masterpiece, brought to fruition here in collaboration with Eisenbahnen und Verkehrsbetriebe Elbe-Weser GmbH (evb) and BLG Cargo Logistics GmbH.
Once the sawn timber has been unloaded, the work for the Smart GigaWood Round & Sawn is far from over; in fact, that’s when it truly demonstrates its versatility: sawn timber in one direction, roundwood in the other. This combination minimizes empty runs and thus sends a strong message both economically and ecologically.
