CargoServ transports around 1.8 million tons of iron ore annually from Erzberg in Styria to Linz. From now on, the RockTainer ORE from Innofreight will be used on the 130-kilometer route, making an important contribution to the supply of raw materials to the domestic steel industry with three to four round trips per day. The first set of 15 2×30 ft InnoWagons was delivered at the end of January, with the second set following at the end of February.
The RockTainer ORE has been in use throughout Europe for more than ten years. It reliably transports iron ore, ore pellets, ore concentrates, and limestone and has established itself as a robust special solution within voestalpine. As a proven and widely used container type, it is already being used to transport ore between Eisenerz and Donawitz – and now also on the 130-kilometer route between Eisenerz and Linz.
On this economically important connection, the voestalpine subsidiary CargoServ moves 1.8 million tons of ore annually and completes three to four round trips daily. With proven Innofreight technology, this traffic will be handled even more efficiently in the future—a significant contribution to the security of supply for the domestic steel industry.
In combination with the 2×30 ft InnoWaggon, the 30 ft long RockTainer ORE plays to its strengths: loading takes place via a conveyor belt directly into the container via a weighing bunker, and unloading via a deep bunker. Each RockTainer ORE has two separate chambers with pneumatically operated flaps that operate quickly, quietly, and gently on the material. Simplified operation allows the flaps to be opened in pairs or collectively. This increases work safety and comfort for operators and significantly reduces wear and tear thanks to dampened mechanics.
More than 2,000 tons per round trip
A train with 15 2×30 ft InnoWaggons and 30 RockTainer ORE transports up to 2,070 tons of ore – the longest block trains even allow the transport of up to 3,700 tons thanks to their lightweight construction. Accordingly, the RockTainer ORE fleet is continuing to grow – now also between Eisenerz and Linz.
In keeping with the route, most of the wagons there feature the green Styria design. Four containers each feature a blue or red special design and serve as anniversary ambassadors on the connection between Linz and Eisenerz: LogServ and CargoServ are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year – Innofreight extends its warmest congratulations!
